The City of Santa Cruz was awarded $730,000 through Caltrans's Clean California Local Grant Program to renovate the public restroom at Main Beach. The project involves nearly a complete re-build of the existing facility. The building will be stripped down to the studs and roof structure. The interior of the building will be modified to add an additional stall. The former storage/kiosk area will become a storage area. The roof will be replaced with standing seam metal and the walls will have new finishes and ADA-compliant fixtures. A local artist will create tile mosaic wall murals for three sides of the building. Picnic tables, trash/recycling receptacles, and signage will be added outside the building, along with security cameras to monitor litter and study coastal resiliency to sea-level rise.
The project has been permitted and construction is planned to begin in November 2023.
Please contact Noah Downing, Park Planner at ndowning@santacruzca.gov or 831-420-5362 if you have any questions or concerns regarding the project.
