Walking Adventure Group



We have some fun adventures planned on both Tuesdays and Thursdays for people who are looking to get some exercise and make new friends while enjoying the beauty of Santa Cruz! Walks meet at 9:30 am and aim to return by 11:30 am.

Tuesdays - Enjoy a leisurely walk of a different area each week. The intention of this group is to get outside, move our body, and enjoy nature unfolding.

Thursdays - A slightly faster paced walk for people who enjoy walking 2-4 miles at various elevation gains.

Please go on walks that feel comfortable for you within the corresponding parameters.

Smell the Roses

Tuesdays, 9:30 am - 11:30 am

 

June 30th:

Monarch Grove Trail, 2.11 miles:

Meet on Delaware Ave at 9:30am, we will walk up to the Grove trail and marvel at the monarch butterflies followed by a walk along West Cliff towards Swift St and then heading back.  Easy terrain. No dogs on trail.

July 7th:

London Nelson to Trescony Community Gardens, approx. 2 miles:

Meet at the steps of the center at 9:30. We will walk up Laurel St, crossing Mission St, and take a left on King St. We will take a walk through the Trescony Community Gardens. 95 elevation gain. No dogs allowed.

 

July 14th:

Watsonville Slough, approx. 3 miles:

Park and meet in the back of the West Marine parking lot located at 500 Westridge Drive, Watsonville. We will walk along the Ohlone Trail. Easy terrain, 36 ft elevation gain. Leashed dogs welcome.

 

July 21st:

Schwan Lake Loops, approx. 1 mile:

Park at the Simpkins Family Swim Center. We will be walking on the trails behind the center. This is a great place for bird watching! Leashed dogs allowed.

 

July 28th:

Capitola Village, 1.75 miles:

Park in the parking lot for Peery Park. We will walk along Riverview Dr. down to Capitola Beach and around the village before heading back to the park. Relatively flat ground, concrete. Leashed dogs welcome.

July 2nd:

Glenwood Open Space Preserve, approx. 3 miles**:

Meet at the Land Trust's Glenwood Open Space Preserve parking lot (a dirt lot just north of the intersection of Glenwood Drive and Kerry Court). We will walk northward from the lot (about 0.5 miles) to the Preserve entrance and hike several of the single-track dirt trail loops in the 166 acres of the Preserve.  Easy to moderate terrain with a few steep stretches. Walking sticks recommended.

 

July 9th:

Cotoni Coast Diaries - Hawk to Tree Trail, 4.25 miles**:

We will be heading out to the trails at Cotoni Coast Dairies State Park. Dirt paths, hiking sticks recommended. Approximately 300ft of elevation gain. Please be aware that this is a longer hike. There will be a check in midway to gauge how the group is going to continue. Leashed dogs welcome.

 

July 16th:

Bonny Doon Ecological Reserve, approx. 3.5 miles**:

Park at the Bonny Doon Ecological Reserve parking lot. We will be walking in and taking the Wallflower Loop to the Silver Leaf Loop. Leashed dogs allowed. Dirt paths, hiking sticks recommended. 360 ft elevation gain.

 

July 23rd:

Lodato Park Loop Trail, 1.3 miles**:

Park in the back of the parking lot for LightSpeed Martial Arts Academy located at 1800 Green Hills Rd. Come see some of the most majestic redwood tree trunks in the forest! Lodato Trail in a moderate terrain with some elevation gain points. Hiking Sticks recommended. Leashed dogs welcome. Approx. 300ft elevation gain.

 

July 30th:

Nisene Marks - Aptos Rancho Trail, 2.5 miles**:

Park at the main entrance of Nisene Marks State Park right after you enter at the pay station. Carpooling is recommended as there is a $10 fee for park entry. We will take the Split Stuff Trail to the Aptos Rancho Trail ending near George’s picnic area. Dirt paths, hiking sticks recommended. This trail has some ups and downs, please be aware if elevation is difficult for you! Leashed dogs welcome. 259ft elevation gain.

Please go on walks that feel comfortable for you within the corresponding parameters.

No asterisk means the walk is less than 100 ft elevation gain.

*: Up to 200 ft elevation gain. Hiking sticks recommended.

**: Up to 300 ft elevation gain. Hiking sticks recommended.

***: Up to 600 ft elevation gain. Hiking sticks recommended.
