Response

The City of Santa Cruz coordinates the community response to a disaster.  Through planning, training, and collaboration we prepare residents, businesses, City staff and first responders. The City Emergency Operations Plan 2025-2030(PDF, 7MB) describes the City's plan to respond to a disaster using federal and state standards of practice to ensure an efficient and effective response.

Your Role in an Emergency

Be ready to step up when your community needs you most. Santa Cruz faces many natural hazards, and past disasters have shown that recovery starts with preparedness. Know your risks, make a plan, and prepare for disruptions to roads, communications, water, and electricity during major emergencies such as earthquakes. Emergency responders may not be able to reach everyone right away, so be prepared to safely shelter in place, support your neighbors, and share reliable information and resources. A prepared community is stronger, safer, and able to recover more quickly after disaster strikes.
