Pacific Station North Celebrates 128 New Affordable Homes

The City of Santa Cruz, Eden Housing and For the Future Housing will celebrate the grand opening of Pacific Station North Apartments on Sept. 29, marking the completion of the final phase of the transit-oriented redevelopment in downtown Santa Cruz between Pacific Avenue and Front Street.

The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at 900 Pacific Ave. and will bring together community partners, project supporters, elected officials and residents to celebrate the opening of the 128-unit affordable housing community.

In addition to 128 affordable homes, the project includes ground-floor retail and commercial spaces, METRO’s new bus transit hub, a pedestrian paseo, and key infrastructure to serve the entirety of the Pacific Station redevelopment.

Located at 900 Pacific Ave., Pacific Station North offers a mix of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments for individuals and families. Thirty-two homes are reserved for extremely low-income households, including 11 homes for individuals and families receiving supportive housing assistance. Fifty-one homes are project-based voucher units, with a preference for households with Emergency Housing Vouchers. The remaining homes are reserved for households earning less than 50% to 60% of the Area Median Income for Santa Cruz County, with a preference for households who live or work in the City of Santa Cruz.

Most of the community’s residential amenities are located on the second floor and include four outdoor decks totaling 1,409 square feet, a 1,186-square-foot community room, a large central laundry room, and a computer room. Property management offices are located on the first floor, as is a 1,585 square foot residential bike room. All residents will receive long term transit passes through Santa Cruz METRO, allowing them to ride METRO buses for free.

The project is designed to be all-electric and is targeting GreenPoint Gold certification in accordance with its funding commitments. Common areas and accessible units are designed to meet or exceed Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility standards.
