The City of Santa Cruz and Santa Cruz BCycle are proud to announce our one millionth bike share ride since launching the program in June 2023!
Together we’ve kept 2,181,956 pounds of greenhouse gases out of Santa Cruz, improving air quality and reducing carbon impact. Embracing bike share as a convenient, affordable, and sustainable transportation option is helping our community advance our climate and mobility goals.
This milestone demonstrates what’s possible when public-private partnerships prioritize sustainability and active transportation. Through strong partnerships with the City, County, and UCSC, bike share has expanded accessibility and transportation choices for our community.
As Santa Cruz continues to grow, transportation demand places increasing pressure on road infrastructure. Bike share provides a practical solution by offering an alternative mode of transport. As an integral part of Santa Cruz's multimodal transportation ecosystem, connecting neighborhoods and bridging the “last-mile” gap between car parks, public transit and destinations. By shifting trips from cars to bikes, bike share continues to:
Improve transportation access throughout the community
Reduce traffic congestion, lessening wear and tear on roads and parking infrastructure
Support greener, smoother, more efficient active transportation throughout Santa Cruz
With one million rides achieved in just three years, the City and Santa Cruz BCycle are committed to building upon this success. A Revolution system, Santa Cruz BCycle is continuing to improve our bike share program to further enhance mobility, reduce emissions, and support a more connected, resilient Santa Cruz.
