Arbor Day in Action: Help Plant 60 Trees and Enjoy Family Activities on May 7

Santa Cruz, CA — The City of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to celebrate Arbor Day on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at University Terrace Park (369 Meder St.).

Volunteers will help plant approximately 60 trees, supporting a greener, cooler, and more resilient Santa Cruz. The event also features family-friendly activities, educational booths, and opportunities to connect with neighbors.

This year, we’re planting resilient, medium-sized canopy trees including maple, Chinese pistache, and crape myrtle. These trees will enhance the park, provide much-needed shade, and help buffer nearby homes.

“Join us to dig in, connect with your community, and help Santa Cruz grow greener, cooler, and more resilient. Or just stop by to watch the work in action and enjoy a lively afternoon in the park. Kids can play, explore interactive booths, and jump into fun art and game activities,” said Leslie Keedy, Urban Forester/Arborist for the City of Santa Cruz.
