Santa Cruz Police Arrest Suspect in Attempted Homicide

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Santa Cruz Police Department responded to the intersection of North Branciforte and Goss Avenues following reports of a shooting.
Officers arrived on scene and located an individual suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided immediate medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to an out-of-county trauma hospital.
Officers identified a suspect vehicle that had left the area. With assistance from the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, officers located the vehicle on Highway 1 in south Santa Cruz County. A suspect, Erik Lozoya, was taken into custody and booked for attempted homicide.
During the investigation, detectives executed search warrants and recovered multiple firearms.
