Trescony Community Garden

Trescony Community Garden is the largest city-run public gardening space which hosts over 50 garden plots. The Gardens currently stand upon the historic Trescony Farm Estate. The soil on this land has been enriched by farming practices for over a century, and the Community Garden is one of the last remnants of agricultural practice in the now urban zone.

Trescony Community Garden Projects

OLLI / UCSC Student Native Plant Project

A dream team of Osher Lifelong Learners and students associated with University of California Santa Cruz have come together to evict invasive weeds surrounding Trescony Garden and replace them with native plants. This project provides a community learning space centered around growing and using native plants. The group of dedicated volunteers will create a seed bank and propagation zone to share with garden and broader community members.

Public Works Waste Reduction Composting Project

The City Waste Reduction Team built a 3-bin hot composting system in Trescony Garden and hosts workshops for the gardeners and the public to encourage household and community-based composting. The City's Food Waste Program produces Biofuel from commercial and household food scraps, but their hope is to encourage individuals who may buy soil amendment to keep the waste and put it to good use instead!
