A Splash of Innovation and Improvement
Our dedicated team has been working tirelessly and overcoming challenges to bring the community a great aquatics experience. We've refreshed the pool house lobby and updated signage to add an efficient layout that streamlines the check-in process. This renovation aims to create a welcoming and functional space for all visitors.
Additional upgrades include removing the old boiler system and replacing it with a modern integrated heat-pump system and resurfacing both pools. Near-term future updates include converting the existing Bromine/Chlorine system for improved operational efficiency.
Meet Our New Team Members
We're excited to introduce our new recreation coordinator, service field crew leader, and program analyst, who are already making strides in enhancing our services. Recruitment efforts continue to fill additional key positions, including pool lifeguards and aquatics instructors, ensuring smooth operations and quality public services.
Stay Connected with Wi-Fi
To enhance convenience and connectivity, we're bringing Wi-Fi to the pool house. This upgrade will benefit both staff and visitors, facilitating communication and access to online resources.
In 2024, the Parks and Recreation Department completed an aquatics market analysis and feasibility study in collaboration with ELS Consulting, Bay Area Economics (BAE), and Aquatic Design Group (ADG) to evaluate the specific needs for aquatics services and programming in Santa Cruz. The final document is available for download (Feasibility Study-Harvey West Pool(PDF, 7MB)). The purpose of the feasibility study is to evaluate the overall market for aquatics services and provide a range of options for a future vision for Harvey West Pool.
Currently, the department is leading a community process oriented toward redesigning Harvey West Park(PDF, 14MB). This will include a chance to re-envision the future of Harvey West Pool and the park as a whole. Additional information will be forthcoming on this community process.

Harvey West Pool was first opened in 1959 through a generous donation of land and funds to support the growing community in Santa Cruz. Over the years, thousands of families were introduced to the water and learned to swim safely in a fun environment.
The facility features an instructional small pool for children, as well as an L-shaped lap swimming pool with a deep water well.
