The City of Santa Cruz and Santa Cruz Municipal Utilities (SCMU) are excited to offer a new Utility Customer Portal. Work for this replacement is currently underway, and the new portal is expected to launch in Late 2026.
Once the new portal is available, you will be able to pay SCMU utility bills, check your water use, and make service requests all in one place!
To ensure you receive important updates about these changes, make sure your SCMU account contact information is up to date. Update your preferred contact information using the SCMU Contact Information Update Form. Contact SCMU by phone (831) 420-5220 or e-mail scmu@santacruzca.gov for assistance.
SCMU is currently setting up a new Utility Customer Portal, but it will not be available until Late 2026. We will keep this page updated with information and any changes to the project timeline.
In the meantime, make sure to be aware of common Utility Scams and protect yourself. Here are a few things to watch out for:
Note: If you suspect fraud, contact your credit card company or bank directly.
While SCMU has been able to offer online portal options in the past, we do not currently offer a comprehensive customer portal and utility billing system.
Our customers can currently make online payments on MyCityofSantaCruz. It is also possible to sign up for leak alerts and view water use data using WaterSmart. Both customer portals rely on a billing system that manages account information in the background. It is now necessary to replace SCMU’s billing system with a modern and comprehensive option.
Once the new system is launched in Late 2026, customers will be able to pay bills, check water use, and make service requests all in one place!
Yes. Once the portal is available, SCMU accountholders will need to make a new account to access online bill pay and set up leak alerts. Account sign-up will become available once the portal has launched in Late 2026. It is not possible to pre-register for this system.
More specific information will be sent directly to SCMU customers when it is possible to create an account in the new Utility Customer Portal.
Yes. Once the new system has launched, SCMU accountholders will need to create a new account and re-schedule any automatic payments. Your current autopay settings will not transfer over to the new system.
The new system will not be available until Late 2026. More specific information will be sent directly to SCMU customers when it is possible to create an account in the new Utility Customer Portal.
In the meantime, use the SCMU Contact Information Update Form to tell us your preferred contact information. (This form cannot be used to change the financially responsible party on your SCMU account.)
This new Utility Customer Portal system will affect all SCMU account-holding customers in one way or another. Bills will look a little different but contain all the same information. Customers who prefer to pay online or check their water use online will need to create a new account. Customers who use autopay will need to re-schedule their autopay after creating a new account.
These changes will not occur until after the new portal becomes available in Late 2026. Stay tuned for more specific updates as we get closer to portal launch.
It is not possible to pre-register for the new portal, but you can make sure your account contact information is up to date with SCMU!
If you are an accountholder with SCMU, use the SCMU Contact Information Update Form to tell us your preferred contact information. (This form cannot be used to change the financially responsible party on your SCMU account.)

This project is currently underway and is expected to be completed by Late 2026. This page will be updated as more information becomes available! Thank you for your patience.
